My brother sent me this oh so interesting article on the history of the ampersand. (I love history & I love typography. Therefore, I love this find.) My favorite new knowledge? The ampersand comes from the latin word for 'and' - 'et.' In its earliest forms, and in some today, it includes both the 'E' and the 'T.' It's literally (well, Latin literally) 'and.'
The image is one of my favorite '&'s. It's Caslon italic. Lovely.
