Snow Ice

Last night Dave and I went on a date to commemorate our first date three years ago (see the post below). We went to this small Italian restaurant (since we went to an Italian restaurant on the first date) and it was tasty -- and kind of odd because we were the ONLY ones in there. It was Wednesday evening, so I guess that's not a very busy night...

For dessert we ventured to Cloud 9 in Lakeview. They specialize in Taiwanese "snow ice" which is the closest thing in Chicago to shave ice. It's fluffier than Hawaiian stuff and made with real pureed fruit rather than syrup. Imagine eating frozen cotton candy and you're probably getting the right picture. It was definitely no Island Snow, but I'll take what I can get here! I got the mango and Dave got green tea. We both got sweeetened condensed milk drizzled on top. In Hawaii we call that a snowcap. And it's delicious no matter where you are.

Snow ice. It's going to be the big summer thing.

On April 4, 2008 Dave and I went on our first date. Dinner at an Italian restaurant in one of my favorite places in the world and then a movie at a little theater near Wheaton. It's been a good three years.

Valentine's Day 2011

This year for Valentine's Day... Dave cooked up some delicious lamb with garlic apple glaze (it was my first time trying lamb!) and an apple walnut salad. (Do notice the meticulously laid apple slices in the photo - that was the work of yours truly.) He also surprised me with some beautiful irises, which are now living happily on my dresser.

My contribution to the night besides my salad display skills? I picked out a movie for us. A romantic one. Okay, so it was actually an action/thriller, but those are my favorite kind! (I remember Dave was really excited about that when he found this out.)

I had to include two photos of the table because while one displays the romantic candlelight dinner, it just doesn't show off the details. Thank you blurry hands.

Me and my valentine.

P.S. Here is the Valentine's post from last year. I feel like we look a lot different? Maybe not?

I make him take pictures with me...

...and he makes funny faces.

We arrived at church separately only to find that our outfits coordinated. I thought this called for a picture. He thought differently. Hence, we compromised.

P.S. In case you wanted to know something sentimental, Dave wore that sweater vest on our first date. I think about that night every time he wears it. :)
